Tallack donations top $100,000 mark
Hanshi Ken Tallack, Kyle Cochrane, and Melanie Loxton of Ken Tallack’s Martial Arts, present Elizabeth Kim, Christmas Hamper and sponsorship co-ordinator for the Salvation Army, with $2,863. The money was raised by martial arts students as part of Ken Tallack’s Martial Arts Fundraiser for Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Campaign. (Steph Crosier/The Whig-Standard)
For the past 20 years, Ken Tallack, instructors and students at Tallack Martial Arts have supported the hamper campaign. This past weekend, students continued their giving ways by collecting pledges for the campaign as they participated in the 500 technique challenge. They were joined by students from the Queen’s University Recreational Karate Club, who completed a 5,000 technique challenge. More than $2,800 was raised by the effort, bringing the total to more than $100,000 over two decades.
We thank Ken and all of his students for the support and genorosity over the years that has helped see thousands of local people enjoy a Christmas dinner with all the traimmings. Their efforts are appreciated and help make a difference in our community.
The 2015 Jerome Taylor Memorial/Whig-Standard Christmas Hamper Fund aims to raise $145,000 to provide meals for 3,200 local households during the holidays. The campaign is off to a good start. We thank all of our supporters whose contributions help make brighten up the holidays for many people in the area.
Sponsoring a family
People can lend their support through a financial donation, volunteering and even sponsoring a family. Family sponsorships allow donors to purchase items for the hamper and deliver them to families in our area. This helps offset the amount of purchasing and delivering hampers, which costs between $85 and $110 per household.
To sponsor a family, please contact Liz Kim at 613-548-4411, ext. 38, or email christmasbaskets@kingstonsa.ca.
