Charles began his martial arts training in 2002 at the age of 8 under Ken and Rob Tallack as part of the Karate Kids program. Since then, nearly 17 years have elapsed, and his study of the Martial Arts has expanded to include the Chinese Martial Arts of Shaolin Kung-Fu and Qin-na.
Charles received his 1st-degree Black Belt in Goju-Ryu Karate at the age of 16, and his 1st-degree Black Sash in Kung-Fu at the age of 19. He was recently recommended for his 3rd-degree rank by the board of masters at the March 2019 CKKA gathering.
Charles supplements his understanding of his Martial Arts styles with the study of the Mandarin Chinese language which he uses on a regular basis when assisting with the Kung-Fu program classes.
