Sachil Singh – Renshi, 4th Dan

Sachil Singh, Ph.D, Renshi, has been training in Shito Ryu karate for more than 30 years ago. When he moved to Canada, he continued his Shito Ryu training but also started learning Goju Ryu under Hanshi Ken Tallack. Today, Renshi Singh holds the ranks of Sandan in Shito Ryu and Yondan in Goju Ryu. He continues to train in both traditional styles. He is an instructor at Tallack Martial Arts and the lead instructor at the Queen’s University Karate Club (since 2017). Since Fall 2023, Renshi Singh has also been teaching a karate program at York University where he promotes martial arts education from the perspective of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).

In April 2023, Renshi Singh travelled to Kyoto, Japan, where he was certified with the grade of Yondan in Karate-do and had the Renshi title bestowed on him in the historic Butokuden. The ceremony was particularly special because the sword used for the event once belonged to Miyamoto Musashi; a legendary Samurai who lived in the 16th and 17th centuries in Japan.
