Happy monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend with some beautiful weather here in Kingston, summer has arrived early this year, and I think that most don’t mind that at all.
This week’s classes will be spent doing lots of special preparation and practice as our annual summer event is this Saturday! Our end of Karate Kids program summer skills competition, tournament, and BBQ will be first starting at 10AM at Cataraqui Woods Elementary School. Admission is by donation to Non-Profit Martial Arts and the event should be concluded around 12PM.
After the morning’s event, we will move onto our annual Senior Belt Examination and Black Belt Test here at the dojo. We will have some special visitors this year as Hanshi Tallack leads the examination with visiting Grandmaster of our style of Kung-Fu in Canada, Si Tai Gung David Chong of the Canadian Karate Kung-Fu Association (CKKA) and Sifu Darrell Couchie of 3 Fires Martial Arts in North Bay, Ontario.
The examination will be a test of endurance, stamina, knowledge, and physical ability as it will run from 1PM to 9PM. Depending on the weather, we will also travel to nearby Lions Civic Gardens for some outdoor training during the examination.
Over 15 students will be testing for various ranks of Black Belt mastery in Karate and Kung-Fu, with other students testing for rank promotions to help them along the road to their future black belt test. Kung-Fu students will also get the chance to have their form Certified with the CKKA by Si Tai Gung Chong.
Once the test is completed, there will be a social gathering to celebrate everyone’s accomplishments, and a brief presentation from the students who traveled to Japan one month ago.
We hope to see you all there, it is going to be our best one yet!
See you at the dojo,
