We are excited to welcome you to the Ambassador Event Centre on Saturday, February 7 @ 9am for the Kingston Karate Kobudo Championships! Please carefully review the divisions, descriptions, and for kobudo practitioners, the list of approved kata.
More information will be provided at the Referee, Judge, and Scorekeeper Training on Friday, February 6 @ 6:30pm at Tallack Martial Arts.

Divisions & Descriptions
- Beginner Exhibition (Students 4 or 5, Students 6 to 12 years with 6 months experience or less)
- Under the guidance of a coach, beginner youth karate students will demonstrate and present their karate techniques in front of Karate Judges. Upon completion, participants will receive a medal from the judges. After the karate student performs their demonstration, they will break a board using a technique directed by a karate instructor.
- Karate Kata
- Solo demonstration of a karate kata
- Non-Contact Sparring
- All sparring divisions are non-contactThe length and organization of matches is based on age and/or experience:
- Under 12 years old: no touch is allowed; 2-point single elimination match
- All sparring divisions are non-contactThe length and organization of matches is based on age and/or experience:
- 13 years and older: touch is allowed with no transfer of energy to the target (touch with no intent to contact forcibly); double elimination matches: minimum 2 matches per entrant from Beginner to Black Belt Divisions; minimum 4 persons per division
- Advanced 16-25 years old: special continuous 90-second sparring matches with break called for points; 10-point match, 5-point gap wins; 1 point for a punch, 2 points for a kick; must be pre-approved by tournament director
- Advanced students must pre-register

- Renzoku – Yakusoku Kumite
- Performance of 2 and 5 person partner exercise for Meitoku-ha practitioners wherein participants will be judged on speed, distance, targeting, stances, and overall presentation
- Team Kata (3 person)
- A team of exactly three people will perform a Kata or Form and be judged on qualities such as synchronization, speed, breathing, intensity, kime, and overall presentation
- Open Kobudo
- Any weapon other than Bo or Sai
- Forms must be chosen from the Approved List (below)
- Youth beginners may perform a dojo Kata
- Sai Forms
- Any Japanese or Okinawan Sai Kata from the Approved List (below)
- Youth beginners may perform a dojo Kata
- Bo Forms
- Any Japanese or Okinawan Bo Kata from the Approved List (below)
- Youth beginners may perform a dojo Kata
- Bo Vs Sai Kumite (90 sec max)
- Partner demonstration of bo vs sai kumite
- Bo Vs Bo Kumite (90 sec max)
- Partner demonstration of bo vs bo kumite
- Self Defence Performance (90 sec max)
- 90 second choreographed self defence scene featuring authentic martial art technique
- 2 or 3 people only
- Kung Fu Form
